.

We have officially been on our big summer vacation for ONE MONTH now and we took time yesterday to take in some of the natural beauty that Maine has to offer by heading over to ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. Daddy is more of the “outdoor enthusiast” in our family, while Mummy likes the comforts of a quaint little shop or tearoom… but I think it’s safe to say that we ALL enjoyed the Acadia outting!!! WOW, the beauty there just can’t be described. I can only say that if you are ever in this part of Maine, you need to plan on spending 2-3 days in the park. We were there for most of the day yesterday, and plan on going back again today.

.

If you haven’t heard about Acadia, let me tell you just a little bit about it: You can start on a 27-mile long drive that circles out of Bar Harbor and enjoy a nice, scenic view. The park includes more than 54 square miles of Mount Desert Island, which is the largest rock-based island on the Atlantic coast. It is said that nowhere along the Atlantic seaboard is the coast more picturesque, and we believe it after seeing it for ourselves! 26 peaks are forested with spruce, fir, pine and northern hardwood trees… and there are 500 types of wildflowers in the park!!! Doggies ARE ALLOWED in the park but NOT on the beaches or ladder hiking trails on mountain cliffs. Actually, those sound sort of scary and I don’t know WHY WHY WHY a doggie would want to go near a cliff anyway!!! But I DO LOVE A GOOD BEACH, so I am sad that we can’t go on the beaches… but at least happy that we are allowed in the park and allowed on regular walking trails!!!

.

We visited Schoodic Point, which is at the tip of Schoodic Peninsula. The drive along the coastal road there was just breathtaking! At the very tip we stopped to have our picture taken, looking out over the Bay, and learned a little about all of the rock formations. The huge boulders of Lucerne granite are called “glacial erratics” and were transported many miles by ice… years and years ago! These boulders look very different from the surrounding bedrock. There are signs posted everywhere reminding you NOT TO REMOVE ANY OF THE ROCKS from the park… so don’t do it!

.

As the day wore on, we decided to head over to   the restaurant, “Jordan Pond House” located within the park. They had a beautiful outdoor eating area on the back lawn that overlooked the water, and they were doggie friendly too! Mummy and Daddy both ordered salads and Mummy had LOBSTER added to hers so that she could share some of it with the four of us. The meal also came with their famous homemade popovers which were so good that Mummy almost cried! We got to sample the popovers too and I have to admit that they WERE PRETTY FANTASTIC! Mummy had some dry kibble to give to us and she hand-fed our dinner to us in our stroller, while we all gazed out at the prettiest view ever. It was getting late and we were all feeling a little drowsy, so Mummy said we needed to pack it up for the day. As we passed under the charming stone tunnel on our way out of the park, we all agreed to come back again, because we still had SO MUCH MORE TO SEE here in Acadia National Park.

?❤️????

Dear Millie and All, What a wonderful couple of days you have enjoyed seeing Acadia National Park! I’ve been to many National Parks and to Maine, but have not visited Acadia–yet. Your collage of photos has convinced me to move it up higher on my list of parks to experience, especially after I read your description of dinner at the restaurant in the park. I just LOVE a wonderful restaurant located in a National Park! There’s a great one in Glacier National Park in Montana if you’re ever there…but I digress. Millie, I guess I’m a “foodie” for sure! I… Read more »
